Living with Gluten Intolerance

by Jane Feinmann

Until recently, doctors thought that intolerance of gluten (a protein in wheat and other grains) was rare. Recent research however suggests that there is a notable increase in those affected - most often women in their 40s and over. In addition, around one in 250 people suffer from coeliac disease, a genetic digestive intolerance to gluten with an underlying autoimmune cause. Gluten intolerance is poorly understood by doctors and frequently misdiagnosed, for example as irritable bowel disorder. This book gives clear information on both coeliac disease and gluten intolerance, explains how they differ from other digestive disorders, and looks at possible treatments as well as self-help measures.

Jane Feinmann is an award-winning health journalist based in London. She has written widely for the consumer press and is author of several books.
